This zenzai combines the flavor of sweet azuki red beans and the refreshing bitterness of matcha powder from Uji, Kyoto.
The words "dessert" and "soup" rarely go together, but that's exactly what zenzai is. Zenzai is a traditional Japanese soup made with sweet azuki beans, and typically topped with mochi rice cakes. This particular zenzai has the addition of Uji Matcha to make it even more special.
Tamba Dainagon azuki, the bean variety used in this zenzai, is a rare azuki bean variety highly-regarded across Japan due to its high level of sweetness and glossy appearance. Tamba's climate is ideal for bean production, so many of Japan's best bean varieties are grown in the region.
Dainagon azuki beans are said to be a treasure of the Tamba region, and they're selected from only the bean pods with the best condition, ensuring that each individual bean is up to standard.
Enjoy it cold, or heat it up for a warm treat. Top with anything you like, the manufacturer recommends mochi rice cakes and ice cream.
